Clot formation [Time] in Blood by Thromboelastography.kaolin.tissue factor induced

Definition

In thromboelastography, clot initiation time (R) is the time for a clot to reach an amplitude of 2 mm, and clot formation time (K) is the time for clot firmness to increase from 2mm (R) to 20 mm. A prolonged K is usually caused by poor platelet function, low platelet count, fibrin polymerization disorders or fibrinogen deficiency. Higher concentrations of heparin can also prolong K in the Kaolin or RapidTEG assay, but not in Kaolin, RapidTEG, or Functional Fibrinogen assays containing heparinase. [PMID: 27264484]
