LaboratoryGlycerol [Moles/volume] in Serum by calculation
Definition
Glycerol concentration calculated based on the difference between triglyceride (TG) and glycerol-corrected TG measurements. Triglyceride is normally measured based on the amount of glycerol present after TG hydrolysis, but in certain conditions such as glycerol kinase deficiency, free glycerol is significantly elevated, which causes TG to appear falsely elevated. To account for this, free glycerol is removed prior to TG hydrolysis to get a true representation of the triglyceride measurement (glycerol-corrected TG) [LOINC: 94865-3].
