LaboratoryMyelopathy autoimmune Ab panel - Cerebral spinal fluid
Definition
This panel contains results for the evaluation of patients with suspected autoimmune myelopathy, myelitis, or paraneoplastic myelopathy using cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) specimens. Autoimmune myelopathy evaluation of both serum [LOINC: 94339-9] and CSF can assist in the diagnosis (e.g. paraneoplastic or idiopathic autoimmune) and distinguishing from other causes of myelopathy, such as multiple sclerosis, sarcoidosis, or vascular disease. Results are used in conjunction with clinical history, examinations, and/or MRIs of the spinal cord to determine an autoimmune diagnosis. Additionally, early testing may assist in earlier diagnosis of occult cancer and initiation of immune therapies.
