Laboratory

Human papilloma virus 6+11 E6+E7 mRNA [Presence] in Tissue by Probe

Definition

This assay detects low risk Human papilloma virus (HPV) genotypes 6 and 11 mRNA in tissue by in situ hybridization. The result (e.g. detected/not detected) only indicates whether either of the probes were detected. It does not differentiate between HPV 6 & 11. This term was created for, but not limited in use to, the submitter's reported result for the Ventana HPV 6 & 11 mRNA probe kits, which bind to HPV 6 & 11 E6/E7 mRNA transcripts. HPV 6 and HPV 11 sequences are highly homologous, therefore the mRNA probes may cross react with the alternate sequence, if present, in the tissue specimen.
