Laboratory

Gram negative blood culture panel by NAA with probe detection in Positive blood culture

Definition

This panel contains terms used for qualitative detection of nucleic acids from various Gram-negative pathogens, directly from positive blood culture samples. It also includes detection of the presence of pan Gram positive organisms and Candida that may be missed in cases of co-infection, as well as genetic determinants of resistance. This panel was created for, but not limited in use to, the GenMark ePlex Blood Culture Identification Gram-Negative Panel (BCID-GN, PI1028-A), which detects the following organisms: Acinetobacter baumannii, Bacteroides fragilis, Citrobacter species, Cronobacter sakazakii, Enterobacter (non-cloacae complex), Enterobacter cloacae complex, Escherichia coli, Fusobacterium nucleatum, Fusobacterium necrophorum, Haemophilus influenzae, Klebsiella oxytoca, Klebsiella pneumoniae group, Morganella morganii, Neisseria meningitidis, Proteus species, Proteus mirabilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella species, Serratia species, Serratia marcescens, and Stenotrophomonas maltophilia. In addition, the panel includes terms detecting the presence of gram-positive and Candida species (without distinguishing between them), and the presence of resistance genes, including blaCTX-M, blaIMP, blaKPC, blaNDM, blaOXA, and blaVIM.
