Laboratory

Gram positive blood culture panel by NAA with probe detection in Positive blood culture

Definition

This panel contains terms used for qualitative detection of nucleic acids from various Gram-positive pathogens, directly from positive blood culture samples. It also includes detection of the presence of pan Gram negative organisms and Candida that may be missed in cases of co-infection, as well as genetic determinants of resistance. This panel was created for, but not limited in use to, the GenMark ePlex Blood Culture Identification Gram-Positive Panel (BCID-GP), which detects the following organisms: Bacillus cereus group, Bacillus subtilis group, Corynebacterium, Cutibacterium acnes (Propionibacterium acnes), Enterococcus, Enterococcus faecalis, Enterococcus faecium, Lactobacillus, Listeria, Listeria monocytogenes, Micrococcus, Staphylococcus, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus lugdunensis, Streptococcus, Streptococcus agalactiae(GBS), Streptococcus anginosus group, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Streptococcus pyogenes (GAS). In addition, the panel can include terms detecting the presence of gram-negative and Candida species (without distinguishing between them), and the presence of resistance genes, including mecA, mecC, vanA and vanB.
