Coccidioides immitis IgG and IgM panel - Serum or Plasma

Definition

This panel contains quantitative (titer) Coccidioides immitis antibody results and ordinal C. immitis IgG & IgM antibody results in serum. Serologic testing for coccidioidomycosis is performed when patients show symptoms of pulmonary or meningeal infection and have a history of possible exposure to Coccidioides immitis (i.e. the patient lived or traveled in areas where Coccidioides immitis is prevalent). The IgG antibodies may be associated with a recent infection but also can be detected in the serum months or years after the initial infection. The presence of IgM antibodies suggest acute primary coccidioidomycosis and are detectable in most patients in 1 to 2 weeks after onset of symptoms. IgM antibodies may persist several months or longer.
