LaboratoryPorcine epidemic diarrhea virus whole genome [Nucleotide sequence] in Isolate by Sequencing
Definition
Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus (PEDv) is a large-enveloped RNA virus, which is a member of the genus Alphacoronavirus within the Coronaviridae family. The complete PEDv genome consists of 5 gene segments: open reading frame 1 (ORF1), spike (S), envelope (E), membrane (M), and nucleocapsid (N). It is encapsulated by a single N protein. The S protein is the major envelope type I glycoprotein of the virion and contributes to the stimulation of neutralizing antibodies in the infected host. Its association to adapted growth in vitro and attenuation in vivo lends itself to use for genetic comparison among PEDV isolates and effective vaccines. The M protein is required for assembly and can also induce the production of virus-neutralizing antibodies. The E protein contributes to coronavirus budding. The N protein has functions associated with viral replication and pathogenesis.
