Laboratory

PRRSV Ingelvac ATP strain ORF5 gene [Cycle Threshold #] in Specimen by NAA with probe detection

Definition

The Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus (PRRSv) genome contains at least eight opens reading frames (ORFs). ORF 5 contains about 600bp and is the least conserved region of PRRSV. Samples taken from infected pigs, as well as virus isolates, can be tested to determine the genetic sequence of the PRRSv. Examining the portion of the RNA that is most likely to mutate helps in determining how closely linked one PRRSv is to another, and can also be used to differentiate field strains from vaccine strains. The intended analyte for this assay is to detect a highly conserved region of the ORF5 gene of the Ingelvac Modified Live Vaccine called Ingelvac PRRSV-ATP. Sample types for this test may include serum, fresh tissue, oral fluids or swabs, nasal swabs and environmental specimens like feed or feed pre-mix.
