85530-4
LaboratoryPRRSV European strain IgG Ab [Presence] in Serum by Immunofluorescence
Definition
The IFA method for antibody testing of Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) is fast and less expensive than other methods but can result in false positives so should be confirmed by virus isolation (VI) or RT-PCR methods. [http://lib.dr.iastate.edu/ cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=4013&context=etd] It uses sample and control serums that are diluted and incubated on the PRRSV infected cells followed by florescent microscopic examination for characteristic patterns of fluorescent staining. Antibody can be detected in experimenally infected pigs 7 to 10 days post inoculation. Serum samples are screened at a 1:20 dilution. (USDA).
