LaboratoryHepatitis D virus RNA [log units/volume] (viral load) in Serum by NAA with probe detection
Definition
HDV screening of all Chronic Hepatitis B (CHB) patients is recommended and HDV viral load (HDVL) detection and measurement should be considered whether or not the patients already have antibodies to HDV. In CHB patients, HDV can occur as a co-infection or superinfection and the course of the disease may be accelerated. [PMID: 24293018] This term was created for, but is not limited in use to, ARUP Laboratories' Hepatitis Delta Virus Quantitative Real Time RT-PCR assay. The viral load is reported in IU/mL. The IU conversion factor, as determined by validation, is 1 IU/mL = 138 copies/mL.
