80821-2
LaboratoryZika virus neutralizing antibody [Presence] in Cerebral spinal fluid by Neutralization test
Definition
Qualitative result for Zika virus neutralizing antibodies in CSF. Serological cross-reactivity is strong between Zika and other flaviviruses, especially Dengue virus. Therefore, positive EIA or IF assays for Zika virus IgM antibodies are presumptive only and should be confirmed by a neutralization assay, such as the plaque-reduction neutralization test (PRNT), which can discriminate between Zika virus and cross-reacting antibodies in primary flavivirus infections. Recent Zika virus infection is confirmed by stable high neutralizing antibody titers, seroconversion, or a 4x or greater increases in neutralizing antibody titer in a patient's appropriately timed acute and convalescent phase specimens.
