Laboratory

Leishmania infantum+donovani IgM Ab [Titer] in Serum or Plasma by Immunofluorescence

Definition

This assay detects antibodies against Leishmania donovani IgM for L. infantum screening based on the known cross reactivity between L. donovani and L. infantum. If the Leishmania IIFT is positive, a monospecific test (example Westernblot) can be performed to differentiate the pathogenic agents and confirm the diagnosis. Immunoglobulin specific slides distinguish between IgG, IgM and IgA. No reaction at a 1:100 titer indicates no IgM class antibodies against Leishmania donovani are detected, but infection cannot be excluded. A reaction of a titer at 1:100 is positive indicating a former or acute infection. This term was created for, but not limited in use to, the submitter's Euroimmun Anti-Leishmania donovani indirect immunofluorescence test kit.
