Laboratory

D- and L-2-hydroxyglutarate panel - Urine

Definition

This panel contains results for D-2-hydroxyglutarate (D-2-HG) and L-2-hydroxyglutarate (L-2-HG), the isomeric forms of 2-hydroxyglutaric acid. Accumulation of D-2-HG and/or L-2-HG in body fluids (e.g. urine, CSF, amniotic fluid, plasma) are the biochemical hallmarks of 2-hydroxyglutaric acidurias (2-HGAs), inborn organic acidurias that cause neurological impairment at a young age.[PMID: 22391998] Results of this panel are used to differentiate D-2-HGA, L-2-HGA and D,L-2-HGA.
