Laboratory

Aldosterone and renin concentration panel - Plasma

Definition

The aldosterone to renin ratio (ARR) can be determined by dividing the molar concentration of aldosterone [LOINC: 14586-2] divided by the mass concentration of renin (also known as active renin concentration or 'ARC') [LOINC: 35570-1]. ARR results above 130 pmol/ng indicate primary aldosteronism. ARR results between 100 - 130 pmol/ng are indeterminate and suggest a need for repeat testing.[PMID: 21912488] The ARR can also be determined by dividing the mass concentration of aldosterone by the renin activity in blood plasma [LOINC: 55151-5].[PMID: 15483077]
