Definition
A non-invasive test that measures the permeability of the small bowel after ingestion of a sugar solution (e.g. lactulose and mannitol).[PMID: 7714684] The test consists of fasting, drinking a sugar solution and collecting the urine specimen for five hours. The submitter's lab measures glucose, sucrose, lactulose, mannitol, and inositol.free (myoinositol) levels in the urine.
