Laboratory

HCV antibody RIBA tests - Meaningful Use set by Immunoblot

Definition

Panel for qualitative or quantitative tests for Hepatitis C virus antibody using immunoblot assay (IB) laboratory method. This panel was created for Meaningful Use 3 as part of a project by the American Medical Association (AMA) to develop three Clinical Quality Measures for Hepatitis C - 1) One-Time Screening for HCV for Patients at Risk, 2) HCV Screening for Active Injection Drug Users, and 3) Appropriate Screening Follow-up for Patients with HCV Infection. This concept may be used by a physician to document that he/she has reviewed the HCV antibody confirmatory test results performed using immunoblotting assay (IB) [RIBA] and performed by an outside lab. When the physician does not know which specific LOINC code to choose when documenting the test and results from the lab report, this more generic LOINC panel code can be used. The HCV antibody RIBA panel includes all antibody tests performed using immunoblotting assay (IB) method. In the eMeasure, this LOINC panel and associated LOINCs codes will be included in a larger value set for the specific type of screening - HCV RIBA Test.
