Total score [HAQ-DI]

Definition

The HAQ-DI score (with aids/devices questions) is calculated as follows: 1) The 8 category scores are added by using the highest sub-category score from each category. 2) If aids/devices and/or help from another person is needed for a given category, the sub-category is adjusted by increasing a zero or a one to a two. If a patient's highest score for that sub-category is a two or three, it remains as is. 3) Divide the summed category scores by the number of categories answered (must be a minimum of 6). The HAQ-DI score will be between 0-3 where 3 is the worst functioning.
