LaboratoryHIV 1+2 Ab and HIV1 p24 Ag [Identifier] in Serum, Plasma or Blood by Rapid immunoassay
Definition
Simultaneously and separately detects HIV-1 p24 antigen (Ag) and HIV-1/2 antibodies (Ab) in human serum, plasma, capillary, and whole blood. Detecting both HIV-1/2 antibodies and the HIV-1 antigen allows earlier diagnosis of HIV than tests relying solely on the presence of HIV 1/2 antibodies because the antigen may be detectable before the virus. This assay is not intended for newborn screening, cord blood specimens, or on individuals less than 12-years. It is also not intended for use in screening blood products or tissue donors. This term was based on, but not limited in use to, the Alere Determine HIV-1&2 Ag/Ab Combo test kit, which delivers results in 25-30 minutes.
