LaboratoryHIV 1 and 2 tests - Meaningful Use set
Definition
Panel for qualitative or quantitative tests typically ordered (or observed) for HIV 1 and/or 2, or HIV virus group (e.g. M, N, O, P), antibody or antigen. The panel was created for Meaningful Use 3 and is used in the following eMeasures: (1) HIV Screening for Patients with Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) (eMeasure ID: 329) and (2) "HIV Screening (eMeasure ID: 349). The goal of the eMeasures is to make sure a patient is screened for HIV, OR that patient is EXEMPT from screening if previous HIV test is performed that evidences patient's HIV status, regardless how that previous test was done (antibody, antigen, RNA, etc.). This concept may be used by a physician to document that he/she has reviewed the HIV 1 and/or 2 test results performed by an outside lab. When the physician does not know which specific LOINC code to choose when documenting the test and results from the lab report, this more generic LOINC panel code can be used. The LOINC codes included in the panel were selected and reviewed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
