74865-7
LaboratoryIgA.lambda [Mass/volume] in Serum or Plasma
Definition
Immunoglobulins are made up of two identical heavy chains which define the immunoglobulin class (A, G, or M) and two identical light chains, kappa or lambda (κ or λ). Each light chain is bound to a heavy chain. This test measures IgA, but selectively IgA with a lambda light chain. The assay employs antibodies that target unique junctional epitopes between the light and heavy chains for each Ig molecule. High serum concentrations of monoclonal protein may indicate an underlying abnormality such as multiple myeloma, monoclonal gammopathy of unknown significance (MGUS), or other lymphoproliferative disorders. [PMID:23211046] This term was based on, but not limited in use to, the Hevylite Human IgA Lambda assay.
