Laboratory

WT1 gene exon 1+2 transcript/control transcript [# Ratio] in Blood or Tissue by Molecular genetics method

Definition

Wilm's tumor (WT1) gene expression is calculated by measuring the copy numbers of transcripts within exon 1 and 2 of the WTI gene compared to transcripts from a control gene. The WT1 gene expression is used as a specific molecular marker to improve diagnosis, prognosis and follow-up of adult acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients. Early decreased expression of WT1 copy number in peripheral blood predicts better outcome for AML patients [PMID:20107153]. This code is based on, but not limited in use to, the submitter's package insert, Ipsogen's ProfileQuant® kit. This kit uses real-time quantitative PCR to quantify WT1 gene expression relative to ABL1 control gene.
