Laboratory

t(4;11)(q21.3;q23)(AFF1,MLL) fusion transcript/control transcript [# Ratio] in Blood or Tissue by Molecular genetics method

Definition

A translocation involving chromosomes 4 and 11, t(4;11)(q21.3;q23), results in a fused transcript between AFF1 and MLL genes. The AFF1-MLL fusion gene is associated with childhood and adult acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) as well as infant acute leukemia. This code is based on, but not limited to, Ispogen's FusionQuant® kit, which uses real-time Quantitative RQ-PCR to quantify the expression level of specific AFF1-MLL fusion transcripts relative to a control gene transcript (e.g. ABL1). Standard curves of known amounts of both the control and fusion transcript are used to calculate the ratio of the fusion transcript signal to the control gene signal.
