LaboratoryHepatitis B virus core Ab [Presence] in Serum from Donor by Immunoassay
Definition
This test is intended to be used as a primary screening test for the diagnosis of acute or chronic hepatitis due to Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. This test has been approved by the FDA for the screening of donors of human cells, tissues, and tissue-based products. A Positive HBVcAb test result is indicative of an acute or chronic infection with HBV, and may be used to disqualify a potential cell or tissue donor. This test is not intended to be used for routine clinical diagnostic testing. Follow-up testing with a HBVcAb test for IgM is not required, but may help to identify patients with an acute infection.
